EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR - Sandi Shaner
Sandi Shaner is a seasoned professional with an impressive blend of experience in nonprofit leadership, corporate development, and academic achievement. Currently at the helm of Carly's Cause, Sandi leverages her extensive background to champion impactful change for individuals and families navigating complex health challenges.
Sandi's professional journey began in the corporate world, where she excelled in event management, sales, and business development. As Director of Meetings and Events at Document Systems Inc. (2007–2010), she spearheaded seminars, trade shows, and corporate training events, managing over 24 LoanMagic events and three DocMagic trade shows annually.
Prior to this, Sandi served as Vice President of Business Development at Mortgage Marketing Group (2002–2006). Here, she honed her skills in business development strategies, product creation, and event promotions, while successfully filling 10 seminars per month across the nation.
Beyond her professional achievements, Sandi has pursued academic excellence with a passion for psychology and education. She earned her Master’s in Psychology from Arizona State University, where her research focused on developmental psychology, cognitive science, and multicultural education. Her capstone project, titled “Enhanced Music Education for Children with Autism,” explored how music education can improve socialization and communication while reducing adverse behaviors in children with autism—a testament to her dedication to supporting underserved communities.
She also holds a Bachelor’s in Psychology from San Diego State University, an Associate’s Degree in Psychology from San Diego Miramar College, and has completed coursework toward an Education Specialist Credential at Point Loma Nazarene University. Sandi is currently pursuing her CFRE (Certified Fund Raising Executive) Certification through the University of California, San Diego Extension, further solidifying her expertise in nonprofit fundraising and donor relations.
Sandi's commitment to excellence extends beyond her career and academics. Her internship at the American Institute for Behavioral Research and Technology allowed her to co-author a study on Best Teen Parenting Skills and assisted in behavioral science research. She has also been recognized for her outstanding contributions, earning awards such as the Nonprofit Leadership Award from City Councilwoman Lori Zapf in 2016 and Volunteer of the Year in 2014 at Fresh Start Surgical Gifts. Sandi remains dedicated to using her skills and experience to create lasting change.
TREASURER - Veronica Pannone
Veronica Pannone is the Treasurer of Carly's Cause, bringing over two decades of experiencein bookkeeping, including expertise in Fundware/Blackbaud accounting software sales. She has been a dedicated member of the organization since 2019, playing a vital role in managing financial operations and ensuring transparency in fiscal matters.Beyond her contributions to Carly's Cause, Veronica has an extensive professional background. She’s provided freelance accounting and tax services for over 25 years, and backend management support for PPP Music for 14 years, demonstrating her strong organizational and administrative skills. A lifelong advocate for community service and volunteerism Veronica has been a proud member of the Girl Scouts organization for over 50 years, joining in 1972. She also took on leadership roles in the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), serving as President from 1999 to2002 and as Secretary from 1998 to 1999.Veronica's dedication, leadership, and experience make her an invaluable asset to Carly'sCause and the communities she serves.
